Hi there :) Back to classical, again we have the classical guitarist and composer Dionisio Aguado and now it's time for his Etude in E Minor. The etude is a nice exercise for the right hand and this time we include the third (ring) finger. The right hand fingers follow the same pattern throughout the piece, the thumb playing the lowest three strings (E, A, D), the index plays the fourth string (G), the middle plays the fifth (B) and the ring plays the sixth string (E).
This exercise may sound difficult for the beginner, but don't be discouraged if you cannot play it at full speed. It takes time to develop these arpeggios, so start slowly and play at the most comfortable speed.
A classical guitar is maybe one of the best instruments that has orchestral powers, due to a different 'color' of each string it can sound multi-instrumental if played right. And that is what I try to achieve with this piece, to make a separate voice with each right hand finger, so basically we have 4 voices here. The thumb is leading the melody and the other 3 fingers are in charge of the rhythm and the harmony. The secret is in accenting, accent differently with each finger and listen the results. My pattern for accenting from the strongest to weakest is as follows: thumb, ring, index, middle, but feel free to experiment with different patterns.
Some people find etudes and scales boring pieces for practicing, but if you add a small piece of yourself to everything you play it may sound great! :)
