Robben Ford Blues Style

This rhythm study is in the style of Robben Ford, and will set you in a virtual band situation. Playing with an hammond player or key in general, you have to create a complementary guitar parts that will melt with the other instruments, with out interfere with the piano/key part. What we have here is more a rhythm riff over a 12 bar blues, than a real strumming chord part, that will be transposed and adapted along the neck, to match the chord progression. First Study the riff in G than try to transpose it all over the neck incorporating it in your rhythm riff bag. Pay attention to the main G7 voicing, played in an un-usual way (but very common in blues), using the left hand thumb to fret the bass note, this technique will free a finger allowing chord embellishment, in this case the G7 to Gsus7 fill.

Aim the right hand to pick portion of a chord to create rhythm riff is a techniques that need time and practicing to be mastered, start very slowly trying to make small and controlled the movement of the right hand.
